Miguel Serrano was born in Santiago de Chile in 1917. He traveled extensively in the southern cone of America in 1947. In 1948 he reached Antarctica. Subsequently, he resided for ten years in India. Serrano was Chile's ambassador to India, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Austria. He had been personal friends with the Dalai Lama, Nehru, C.G. Jung, and Hermann Hesse.
