Patriotic Dissent Books believes in the Constitution and the fundamental American right of Freedom of Speech for all people. Freedom of Speech is not a right-wing concept; it is an American constitutional principle that should transcend party politics. Unfortunately a growing number of Americans would like to see this vital right repealed. Patriotic Dissent Books is not a part of the left-right paradigm and should be considered as standing above this distinction.
Patriotic Dissent Books views censorship as one of the hallmarks of repression. Banning books, whether informally or formally, is a very slippery slope. What is considered to be objectionable material is not static; it is contingent on the spirit of the times. At this moment right-wing books are the only books which are in jeopardy of being suppressed, but in the future left-wing books could suffer the same fate. We do not believe that any book should be banned or suppressed. No one has the right to be the arbiter or what we can and cannot read. We believe people should have the right to judge for themselves.
When we no longer have freedom of speech, we lose the ability to truly educate ourselves. To understand anything, one must go to the source. History cannot be illuminated through tendentious secondary resources. By making these suppressed books accessible, Patriotic Dissent Books is promoting freedom of speech and a level playing field in the political arena.
